Strawberry under house arrest
Baseball hero Darryl Strawberry is now under a 2 year span of house arrest.
Strawberry admitted to guilty in a probation violation hearing for driving under the influence of medication and fleeing an accident scene.
Strawberry is fighting the spread of colon cancer, and claims to have had a black out from the medication causing a traffic accident while on his way to see his probation officer.
Originally under probation for on charges for drugs and solicitation, Strawberry made an apology during his hearing, because he was not sure of the kind of damage he had caused and whether or not anyone was injured. Mercifully, the Prosecution asked for house arrest, even though he could have been sent to prison. Although Strawberry will have to stand trial again on the charges of fleeing an accident scene and driving under influence.
Under house arrest, Strawberry will only be able to leave the home for doctors appoinments or for work. If he should desire to regain a position in major league sprots, he'll have to get permission of the court first. Since his suspension, he is not getting paid from the Yankees.
Strawberry will also have to undergo drug testing regularly and also suprise visits from the Florida Department of Corrections to be sure that he is at home. He was also spared community service, and it was suggested that he get a driver for any future excursions from the home.
The woman in the car he hit was not injured, and his wife is quite relieved after the announcement of that fact. She also apologizes for Strawberry's behavior, and cites further reason for his action due to surgery and having a kidney removed.
